Scott Castillo Killed, Kurtis Swanner Seriously Injured in Highway 16 Crash

AMADOR COUNTY, CA (September 30, 2022) – A crash killed Scott Castillo and seriously injured Kurtis Swanner on Highway 16 in Amador County.

The California Highway Patrol identified the two men as the drivers involved in the fatal wreck which took place on Saturday.

The incident happened when Kurtis Swanner was driving a 2013 Hyundai east while Scott Castillo was going west in 1997 Ford on Highway 16 in Amador County.

2 Cars Collide

For an unknown reason, the two then collided head-on west of Old Sacramento Road. The Ledger News wrote that the accident occurred on September 24 at about 5:55 a.m.

Both Kurtis Swanner, 35; and Scott Castillo, 52, sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed both of them to the Kaiser South Sacramento for treatment.

CHP confirmed that 52-year-old Pine Grove man soon died. The 35-year-old Sutter Creek man remained hospitalized.

Meanwhile, officers forced Highway 16 to shut down for a time in both directions following the wreck. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
