Big Rig Driver, 57, Killed in Long Beach Crash on 91 Freeway Near Susana
LONG BEACH, CA (June 5, 2022) – The driver of a big rig was killed after a crash on the 91 Freeway near Susana Road in Long Beach.
According to The Press Telegram and Long Beach Post, the tragic accident took place early Sunday. Officers reported the wreck at about 1:10 a.m.
The incident happened when a 2022 Freightliner was going east on the 91 Freeway, west of Susana Road, in Long Beach. A 2004 Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed in the same direction at the time.
The California Highway Patrol said the car in the No. 1 lane then hit the center divider. In the process, the Toyota slammed into the rear of the big rig.
Speeding Driver Hits Semi-Truck
The semi-truck spun out of control and went off the road. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the driver of the big rig, a 57-year-old Santa Ana resident, dead at the scene.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the speeding motorist sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel took him to a hospital for treatment. CHP soon arrested and took the man driving the car into custody.
Officers forced the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway near Susana for a time following the wreck. The fatal Long Beach crash is still under investigation.
