Man in Wheelchair Killed in Long Beach DUI Crash at Stearns and Radnor
LONG BEACH, CA (June 13, 2021) – A DUI crash killed a man in a wheelchair at Stearns Street and Radnor Avenue in Long Beach.
According to The Press Telegram and KTLA News, the tragic accident occurred late Saturday night. Officers reported the collision on June 12 at about 11:19 p.m.
The incident happened when a male pedestrian in a wheelchair was crossing southbound on Radnor Avenue in Long Beach. At the same time, a 2016 Honda Civic was going west on Stearns Street.
Victim Hit by Drunk Driver
Police said the car then struck the man in the wheelchair pushing a shopping cart full of his belongings. The driver hit him in the unmarked crosswalk.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name remains unreleased pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police determined that the man driving the Honda was under the influence of alcohol when the collision took place. They arrested him for DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
