Los Angeles is Most Congested City in World, Traffic Report Says
Los Angeles is the most traffic-congested city in the world with drivers spending an average of 104 hours on the road in congestion during peak travel times, according to a report by Inrix, a traffic analytics firm.
Inrix analyzed 1,064 cities in 38 countries to create the rankings, but China and Japan were not included as the firm does not gather its own data in these cities.
Moscow, Russia ranks second with 91 hours and New York ranks third with 89 hours. San Francisco came in fourth, followed by Bogota, Columbia; Sao Paulo, Brazil; London, England; Atlanta Georgia; Paris, France; and Miami, Florida.
Roughly half of all cities on the list of top 10 most congested areas in the world are here in the United States, the Inrix report states. Some 240 U.S. cities were included in the study.
On average, American drivers spend 42 hours every year in peak traffic at an average cost of about $1,400 per person or $300 billion nationally.
Our quality of life here in the U.S. has gone down in 2016 as traffic and congestion has gone up. The problems are attributed to a stable economy, urbanization of big cities, growth of employment and lower gas prices.
Roadway construction is flat, but the number of people driving and time spent on roadways continues to increase.
The solution will be to use traffic data and technology to improve traffic flow and roadways as well as create more driver-friendly freeways and roads to meet demand.
If you are not happy with the congestion in your city, consider moving to Parkersburg, West Virginia whose motorists spent the least amount of time(3 hours) stuck in traffic than any other city in the United States.
Liability for a Collision
The more congestion a city has, the more likely there are numerous traffic accidents. Based on the facts for each unique traffic collision, a police officer could determine that either one or several people were liable. There could also be some liability on the part of a government entity. There are many factors involved. Who had the right-of-way? What were the road conditions? These are all things that police will consider when they determine liability for a collision.
