Major Injury, Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 111
BRAWLEY, Calif. (August 8, 2022) — A major-injury crash on Highway 111 sent a red Cadillac off the roadway into New River, just north of Rutherford Road in the Rockwood area.
The California Highway Patrol reported the two-vehicle crash about 1:22 p.m. on August 8th, just north of Brawley.
The drivers of a gray 2019 Toyota Camry and a red Cadillac collided due to unknown circumstances. The Cadillac went off the roadway and overturned into the New River before it became fully submerged in the water.
A female occupant was reportedly trapped inside the upside down vehicle. It’s unknown how many people in total were inside the overturned Cadillac. By 1:42 p.m., the Brawley Police Department told CHP operators that all of the people were out of the vehicle.
Paramedics responded to help at least one person with a major injury from the crash.
A heavy-duty tow truck responded to left the vehicle out of the waterway.
Investigators are working on the cause of the crash and liability.
