Maria Marcelo, 47, Killed in San Jose Pedestrian Crash at Perrymont and Little Orchard
SAN JOSE, CA (December 8, 2022) – Community activist, Maria Marcelo, was killed after a pedestrian crash at Perrymont Avenue and Little Orchard in San Jose.
City officials identified the 47-year-old San Jose woman as the victim of the fatal accident which took place on Wednesday.
The incident happened when Maria Del Rosario Marcelo Brito was crossing Little Orchard Street near Perrymont Avenue in San Jose. At the same time, a 2004 Buick SUV was going north on Little Orchard.
Woman Hit by Car
Police said for an unknown reason, the car struck her near the Plant Shopping Center. The East Bay Times and CBS San Francisco wrote that the collision occurred on December 7 at around 7:30 p.m.
Maria Marcelo died at the scene of the pedestrian accident. She was the co-founder of the Healing Grove Health Center, and was leading a procession of the Virgen de Juquila when the SUV hit her.
Meanwhile, police added that the driver of the Buick stopped and stayed at the site following the incident. Officers forced the intersection to shut down for a time after the collision.
