Mark Fiala, 66, Killed in Pleasanton Pedestrian Crash at Stoneridge and Newton
PLEASANTON, CA (May 12, 2021) – A pedestrian accident at Stoneridge Drive and Newtown Way killed Mark Fiala in Pleasanton.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau identified the 66-year-old Pleasanton man as the victim of the fatal crash which occurred on Monday morning.
The incident happened when Mark Fiala was walking northbound on Newton Way and crossing Stoneridge Drive with his dog in Pleasanton.
At the same time, a vehicle was going east on Stoneridge. Police said for an unknown reason a vehicle struck the pedestrian and his dog in the crosswalk.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and then found Mark Fiala lying on the ground as a result of the collision. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
Officials took the dog to a veterinarian for treatment of minor injuries. The Pleasanton Weekly and East Bay Times wrote that the pedestrian accident took place on May 10 shortly after 6 a.m.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver stopped after hitting Fiala and stayed at the crash site. The motorist cooperated with the authorities.
Officers soon forced portions of Stoneridge Drive to shut down for nearly five hours following the collision. The Pleasanton pedestrian accident is still under investigation.
