Martin Villegas, 57, Killed in San Bernardino Hit-and-Run Crash on Pepper Avenue
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (March 9, 2022) – Martin Villegas was killed after a hit-and-run crash on Pepper Avenue in San Bernardino.
Police identified the 57-year-old San Bernardino man as the victim of the fatal wreck which took place on Tuesday night.
The incident happened when Martin Villegas was driving a Toyota Corolla north on South Pepper Avenue in San Bernardino.
At the same time, a Dodge Challenger was traveling at a high rate of speed behind him. Police said the Dodge then slammed into the rear of the Toyota.
Speeding Driver Hits Victim, Flees Scene
In the process, the Corolla struck a street light nearby. The Sun and The Fontana Herald News wrote that the accident occurred on March 8 at about 10:05 p.m.
Martin Villegas ended up suffering from critical injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he soon died.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the speeding driver abandoned the Dodge and fled on foot. Officers forced a stretch of Pepper Avenue to shut down for hours following the wreck.
Police are still searching for the hit-and-run suspect who left Martin Villegas after the collision. The San Bernardino hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
