DUI Driver Mason Wessel, 29, Hits Several Cars in Dixon Crash
DIXON, CA (April 12, 2021) – Authorities detained Mason Wessel after a fatal DUI crash along the Interstate 80 in Dixon.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 29-year-old San Francisco man was under the influence of alcohol on Sunday morning.
The incident began when Larry Bowie was driving a black Mazda CX5 at a high rate of speed west on the Interstate Highway 80, west of Dixon Avenue.
CHP said the Vallejo Man hit the rear of a silver Hyundai Elantra. Several people, including 26-year-old Julie Phillips, stopped to help the involved parties.

Mason Wessel drove his red Toyota Tacoma into the crash site and slammed into a silver Toyota Prius. The Tacoma crashed into the Mazda and Bowie, who was standing outside the car at the time.
The Tacoma continued forward and then struck Phillips, of Dixon. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene.
The Reporter and KRON 4 News wrote that the collision occurred on April 11 at about 2:38 a.m. The motorist in the Prius, 26-year-old Suisun City resident Karen Maduena, sustained minor injuries as a result of the wreck.
Bowie, of Vallejo, and Mason Wessel suffered major injuries following the crash. Medical personnel rushed all three patients to the Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, officers soon arrested Wessel on suspicion of felony DUI. The tragic accident is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the CHP at (707) 428-2100.
