2 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured in Mecca Crash at Highway 86 and 66th Avenue
MECCA, CA (April 13, 2023) – A crash killed two people and seriously injured another person at Highway 86 and 66th Avenue in Mecca.
According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch team, the tragic accident took place late Thursday night. Officers reported the wreck on April 13 at around 11:50 p.m.
The Riverside County Fire Department said a semi-truck and two sedans collided for an unknown reason in Mecca. The three crashed at the intersection of Highway 86 and 66th Avenue.
One of the cars involved then caught fire, overturned and landed on its roof. CHP added that the big rig rolled onto its side due to the impact of the collision.
Cars and Semi-Truck Collide
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and pronounced two people dead at the scene. A third individual sustained major injuries as a result of the wreck.
Medical personnel rushed the patient to a hospital for treatment. Cal Fire also evaluated two other occupants involved who declined further aid.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, officers forced the area of Highway 86 and 66th Avenue to shut down for a time following the incident.
The cause of the fatal Mecca crash is still under investigation.
