Man, 35, Critically Injured in Merced Hit-and-Run Crash on Ashby Road

MERCED, CA (May 10, 2021) – A pedestrian was critically injured after a hit-and-run crash on Ashby Road in Merced.

According to an article published by The Merced Sun Star, the accident occurred early Monday. Officers reported the collision at about 1:13 a.m.

The incident happened when a male pedestrian was walking eastbound on Ashby Road, east of Cooper Avenue, in Merced. At the same time, a vehicle was going west.

Driver Hits Pedestrian, Flees Scene

Police said for an unknown reason, the driver then struck the 35-year-old man. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found him left lying and not moving on the ground.

He sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed him to a Modesto-area hospital and listed him in critical condition.

Officials did not release the name of the victim. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist involved did not stop to render aid to the pedestrian and fled the area.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect. The Merced hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 209-388-7801 or 209-385-4725.
