Educator Dies in Fiery Collision on Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
San Francisco, CA (February 4, 2022) – On January 26, a car crash occurred on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge and killed 31-year-old Michael Baroja.
The FOX2 News reported the San Francisco educator was behind the wheel of a 1988 Toyota Supra stalled for an unknown reason in the eastbound side of the bridge. An oncoming big rig failed to slow down and slammed into the back of the car.
Due to the force from the impact, the Toyota caught fire. The article published online mentioned Baroja ended up trapped in his car fully engulfed in flames.
Emergency crews arrived at the location shortly after 7 p.m. Rescue teams worked extensively to extricate and save the victim but the Toyota driver sadly died at the scene. Authorities identified the deceased as Michael Baroja, of San Pablo. The fatal victim worked for six years at Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary in the Sunset neighborhood in San Francisco.
Meanwhile, no immediate information was available on the big rig driver.
Detectives continue to work at this time to determine the precise cause of the fatal collision on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.
