Bicyclist Michael Dodson, 76, Killed in Sacramento Crash Near American River and Tribute
SACRAMENTO, CA (July 25, 2021) – A DUI crash killed Michael Dodson near American River Parkway and Tribute Road in Sacramento.
The Coroner’s Office identified the 76-year-old Sacramento man as the victim of the collision which took place last month.
The incident happened on June 29 when Michael Dodson was riding a bicycle on the north side of the American River Parkway in Sacramento.
Police said a vehicle then went around the trail gates and onto the bike path. In the process, the driver hit the cyclist near Tribute Road.
Bicycle Rider Hit by Drunk Driver
The Sacramento Bee and CBS Sacramento wrote that the accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. The two collided just west of the Capital City Freeway overcrossing.
Paramedics found Michael Dodson left lying on the ground as a result of the Sacramento crash. He sustained major injuries following the collision.
Medical personnel rushed him to a hospital and listed him in critical condition. Deputies confirmed that the bicyclist died on July 23.
Meanwhile, police determined that the motorist was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the rider. They soon arrested him on felony DUI and hit-and-run charges.
Authorities booked the man at the Sacramento County Main Jail. The Sacramento DUI crash is still under investigation.
