Nipomo Man Dies in Collision Near Main Street
Santa Maria, CA (May 12, 2022) – Michael James Lewis, a 68-year-old Nipomo resident, suffered fatal injuries following a car accident that occurred on Highway 101 Monday.
The Santa Maria Times News reported Lewis was driving a 2002 Honda CRV traveling north on SR-101. At about the same time, a 20-year-old man was also driving a 2007 Nissan 350Z on northbound Highway 101. Officials believed one driver made an unsafe lane change and cased both cars to collided. The horrible crash took place at about 9:43 a.m.

When emergency crews arrived at the site, they found the Honda overturned near the center divider of the highway. Rescue teams pulled out Lewis from the mangled car, then transported him to Marian Regional Medical Center. The patient sadly succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving measures performed by paramedics. The Sheriff’s-Coroner’s Bureau named the fatal victim as Michael James Lewis, of Nipomo.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan appeared unharmed after the incident.
Detectives stayed at the scene the whole morning. They continue to investigate several unclear factors surrounding the deadly crash on Highway 101 in Santa Maria.
