Michael Mendoza, 25, ID’d as Suspect in Fresno County Fatal DUI Crash
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (March 19, 2022) – Authorities detained Michael Mendoza after a fatal DUI crash at Jensen and Marks avenues in Fresno County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 25-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck took place on Friday.
The incident began when Michael Mendoza was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe faster than the speed limit north on Marks Avenue in Fresno County. At the same time, a GMC Yukon was going west on Jensen Avenue.
Girl, 17, Killed in Wreck
CHP said Michael Mendoza ran a stop sign and then broadsided the GMC at the intersection. The ABC 30 News and Your Central Valley wrote that the accident occurred on March 18 at around 8:40 p.m.
Michael Mendoza ended up ejected from his car into a nearby field as a result of the crash. Paramedics took him to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Medical personnel rushed the driver of the Yukon, a 17-year-old girl, to CRMC where she died. Meanwhile, CHP arrested Michael Mendoza for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Records showed that the suspect has prior DUI and firearms charges. The Fresno County DUI crash is still under investigation.
