Michael Reitz, 68, Badly Injured in Joshua Tree Crash on Highway 62
JOSHUA TREE, CA (March 13, 2023) – Michael Reitz is one of three people injured in a deadly crash on Highway 62 near Sunview Avenue in Joshua Tree.
A fourth person suffered fatal injuries, but has not been identified.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 68-year-old Wisconsin man as one of three people hurt in the fatal wreck which took place on Saturday.
The incident happened when Michael Reitz was driving a Ford F-250 east on Highway 62 in Joshua Tree. At the same time, a Nissan Rogue was stopped on the right shoulder.
CHP said the Nissan then made a left turn from the shoulder into the path of the Ford. In the process, the two cars collided near Sunview Road.
1 Killed in Wreck
The KESQ News and Z1077fm wrote that the collision occurred on March 11 at around 12:20 p.m. Firefighters confirmed that the female driver of the Nissan died at the scene of the accident.
Michael Reitz and his passenger, a 67-year-old woman, sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed them to the Hi Desert Medical Center for treatment.
The second occupant of the Rogue survived the incident with major injuries. Medical personnel took them to the Desert Regional Medical Center for further aid.
Meanwhile, officers forced the eastbound side of Highway 62 to shut down for hours following the wreck. The cause of the Joshua Tree crash is still under investigation.
