2 Killed, 5 Injured in Mission Beach Crash on Mission Boulevard
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 29, 2022) – A crash on Mission Boulevard killed two people and injured several others in the Mission Beach community.
According to The San Diego Union Tribune and FOX 5 News, the tragic accident took place on Saturday afternoon. Officers reported the collision at about 3:08 p.m.
The incident happened when a Ford EcoSport was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Mission Boulevard. At the same time, a Kia Sportage was going north.
San Diego police said the Ford then slammed head-on into the Kia in the 2900 block of the road. The two crashed near San Gabriel Place.
Wrong-Way Driver Hits Another Car
The 62-year-old man driving the wrong-way and a passenger in the Sportage, a 59-year-old woman, died as a result of the collision.
Paramedics rushed the other two occupants of the EcoSport and three more people riding the Kia to hospitals for treatment. One person from the Sportage ended up in critical condition.
One from the EcoSport sustained internal chest bleeding. Police added that the remaining patients survived the incident with minor injuries.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, police forced a stretch of Mission Boulevard to shut down for a time following the wreck.
The cause of the fatal Mission Beach crash is still under investigation.
