Man, 68; and Woman, 63, Killed in Monterey County Crash on Maher Road
MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (October 10, 2022) – A crash killed two people and seriously injured another person on Maher Road in Monterey County.
According to the KION News and KSBW News, the tragic collision took place on Monday morning. Officers reported the wreck at around 5:10 a.m.
The incident happened when a Ford Explorer was going west on Maher Road near Watsonville and Prunedale in Monterey County. At the same time, a Nissan Pathfinder was traveling east.
For an unknown reason, the Ford crossed into oncoming traffic directly into the path of the Nissan. The California Highway Patrol said in the process, the two collided head-on.
Leslie Frias, 20, Seriously Hurt in Wreck
The 68-year-old Watsonville man driving the Pathfinder and his passenger, a 63-year-old Watsonville woman, died at the scene.
The names of the deceased victims have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Explorer, Leslie Gonzalez Frias, survived the accident with major injuries.
Paramedics rushed the 20-year-old Watsonville woman to a hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, CHP forced Maher Road to shut down for a time following the wreck.
Officers added that both cars obtained major damage due to the impact of the collision. The cause of the fatal Monterey County crash is still under investigation.
