1 Injured in National City Crash on State Route 54 and Highland Avenue
NATIONAL CITY, CA (May 28, 2022) – One was hospitalized after a wrong-way crash on State Route 54 and Highland Avenue in National City.
According to an article published by the FOX 5 News, the accident took place on Saturday evening. Officers reported the wreck at around 7:30 p.m.
The incident began when a black Mercedes was traveling at a high rate of speed on the State Route 54 on-ramp at Highland Avenue in National City.
The California Highway Patrol said the speeding driver, going the wrong-way, then tried to exit the highway. At the same time, a blue Jeep Renegade was entering State Route 54.
Speeding Wrong-Way Driver Hits Another Car
In the process, the Mercedes slammed into the Jeep on the westbound side of the roadway. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene.
They found the motorist in the Renegade who ended up hurt as a result of the collision. Medical personnel then took the patient to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
The report did not release the name of the wounded victim and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, police arrested and took the wrong-way suspect into custody.
Officers forced the westbound lanes of State Route 54 to shut down near Highland following the wreck. The National City crash is still under investigation.
