1 Killed in Oakland Crash on Interstate 80 Near Bay Bridge Toll Plaza
OAKLAND, CA (June 26, 2022) – A car crash killed one person on the Interstate 80 near the Bay Bridge toll plaza in Oakland.
According to The Mercury News and NBC Bay Area, the tragic accident took place on Sunday night. Officers reported the wreck shortly before 9 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol said two vehicles collided for an unknown reason in Oakland. They crashed on the eastbound Interstate 80, just west of the Bay Bridge toll plaza.
2 Vehicles Collide
One car, a small sedan, went off the right-hand side upon impact and then rolled over. The second vehicle ended up sideways in the slow or right-most lane.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and pronounced one individual dead at the scene. The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP forced several lanes of the Interstate 80 to shut down near the Bay Bridge for more than an hour following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Oakland crash is still under investigation.
