Woman Killed in Oakland Hit-and-Run on Interstate 880 Near Hegenberger Road
OAKLAND, CA (November 20, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian on the Interstate 880 near Hegenberger Road in Oakland.
According to the East Bay Times and KRON 4 News, the tragic accident took place on Saturday morning. Officers reported the incident at about 7:42 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol said a vehicle struck a female pedestrian for an unknown reason in Oakland. The driver hit her on the southbound Interstate 880 near the Hegenberger Road off-ramp.
Driver Hits Pedestrian, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found the woman left lying unresponsive on the ground. She sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel soon pronounced her dead at the scene. The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to help the woman and fled the area. Officers forced the southbound lanes of the Interstate 880 to shut down near Hegenberger following the crash.
