Pedestrian, 65, Killed in Oceanside Crash at El Camino Real and Camino Town
OCEANSIDE, CA (August 6, 2021) – A crash killed a pedestrian at El Camino Real and Camino Town in Oceanside.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and Oside News, the tragic accident occurred on Friday night. Officers reported the collision at about 8:40 p.m.
The incident began when a vehicle was going north on El Camino Real in Oceanside. For an unknown reason, the female driver ran the red light at the intersection with Camino Town.
Driver Runs Red Light, Hits Man in Crosswalk
Police said in the process, the motorist struck a male pedestrian walking in the crosswalk. He was hit just north of State Route 78 at the entrance to the Camino Town & Country shopping center.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the 65-year-old man dead at the scene. His name remains unreleased pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the woman stopped and stayed at the site after hitting the victim. They soon arrested her on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter because she ran the red light.
Officers forced the area of El Camino Real and Camino Town to shut down for a time following the collision. The fatal Oceanside pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
