Off-Duty Officer Hit and Injured by Vehicle Near State Route 76
Oceanside, CA (April 29, 2022) – An off-duty San Diego police officer suffered injuries following a car and pedestrian accident that occurred on Interstate 5, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Officials said a semi truck was heading south on the freeway in Oceanside Friday morning. In the area near the transition road onto State Route 76, two of the tires of the truck got dislodged. According to the article published online, the tires rolled into freeway and caused a traffic backup.
Deputy Hospitalized After Car, Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 5 in Oceanside
Shortly after, an off-duty San Diego police officer pulled over and attempted to remove the tires from the road. While in the process of clearing the freeway, an oncoming BMW struck the officer. The collision resulted in injuries to the deputy. Due to the condition of the victim, an ambulance transported the patient to the hospital for treatment and further evaluation.
No immediate information was available on the driver of the BMW.
Detectives stayed at the scene the whole morning. They continue to investigate several unclear factors surrounding the traffic accident on Interstate 5 in Oceanside.
