Oceanside Police Officer Injured in DUI Crash on Vista Way
OCEANSIDE, CA (December 13, 2022) – A police officer was hospitalized after a DUI crash on Vista Way in Oceanside.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego, the accident took place early Tuesday. Officers reported the wreck at around 1:35 a.m.
The incident began when a white Kia Optima exited west State Route 78 at a high rate of speed and spun out of control while merging onto Vista Way.
At the same time, an Oceanside police officer parked their SUV in the 1200 block of Vista Way near the Interstate 5. Police said the Kia went up a raised center island and slammed into the patrol car.
Drunk Driver Hits Patrol Car
The impact of the collision then propelled the SUV more than 40 feet. Both vehicles obtained significant front-end damage as a result of the accident.
The officer and the driver of the Optima sustained non-life-threatening injuries following the wreck. Paramedics rushed them to a hospital for treatment.
The reports did not disclose the names of the patients and their condition at this time. Officers found several alcohol bottles inside the Kia and determined that the motorist was under the influence.
They soon arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI with injury. Meanwhile, police forced a stretch of Vista Way to shut down after the incident.
The Oceanside crash is still under investigation.
