Motorcyclist Killed in Oildale Crash at Merle Haggard and Airport Drives
OILDALE, CA (July 23, 2021) – A motorcyclist was killed after a crash at Merle Haggard and Airport drives in Oildale.
According to an article published by the Kern Golden Empire, the tragic accident occurred early Friday. Officers reported the wreck at around 12:15 a.m.
The incident began when a big rig was traveling the wrong way on Merle Haggard Drive, approaching Airport Drive, in Oildale.
Wrong-Way Big Rig Driver Crashes Into Motorcycle
The California Highway Patrol said the semi-truck then slammed into the motorcycle rider in the intersection. The tractor-trailer went over the center median and slammed into multiple trees.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed that the motorcyclist died as a result of the collision.
The name of the deceased victim remains unreleased pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the driver of the big rig stayed at the site and cooperated with the authorities.
Officers forced the area of Merle Haggard and Airport drives to shut down for a time following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Oildale crash is still under investigation.
