Driver Hospitalized After Collision Near U.S.-Mexico Border in Otay Mesa Tuesday
Otay Mesa, CA (February 8, 2022) – At least one person suffered injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on Avenida de la Fuente Tuesday.
The FOX5 published an article online reporting a collision involving a semi truck and a pickup. For reasons still under investigation, the two automobiles crashed head-on in the 8400 block of Avenida de la Fuente. Officials mentioned the site was only a short distance from the U.S.-Mexico border.
Shortly after 7:50 p.m., rescue teams arrived at the accident scene. First responders found the truck driver trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters worked extensively to extricate the victim. After the man was pulled out, a helicopter transported the patient to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. The name and condition of the injured motorist remained undisclosed pending confirmation.
Authorities mentioned a hazmat crew later responded to the location to clean up a large diesel spill that came from the semi.
Further investigation is ongoing on the traffic collision on Avenida de la Fuente in Otay Mesa.
