Bicyclist Killed in DUI Crash on Wooley Road Near Oxnard Boulevard
OXNARD, CA (February 14, 2022) – A bicyclist was killed after a DUI crash on Wooley Road in Oxnard.
According to to The Ventura County Star and KEYT News, the tragic accident took place late Sunday night. Officers reported the collision at about 10:18 p.m.
The incident happened on February 13 when a 2018 Honda Civic was traveling at a high rate of speed east on Wooley Road in Oxnard.
Police said the Honda then passed through an intersection and veered onto the south shoulder of the road, east of Oxnard Boulevard. In the process, the speeding car struck the rider of a blue BMX-style bicycle.
Bicycle Rider Hit by Drunk Driver
The male bicyclist ended up ejected off his bike as a result of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found him lying on the ground.
Medical personnel soon pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police determined that the driver of the Civic was under the influence when he hit the cyclist. They arrested him for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and a felony DUI.
Officers booked the 27-year-old Oxnard man into the Ventura County jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail. Police forced a stretch of Wooley Road to shut down for a time following the collision.
