Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Pacific Beach Crash at Haines and Grand
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 22, 2021) – A DUI crash seriously injured a motorcyclist at Haines Street and Grand Avenue in the Pacific Beach neighborhood.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck shortly before 2 p.m.
The incident began when a 25-year-old man was riding a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on Grand Avenue, approaching Haines Street, in Pacific Beach.
At the same time, a 2000 Toyota Camry was stopped in a southbound traffic lane on Haines at Grand. San Diego police said the car then pulled out in front of the motorcyclist.
Motorcycle Rider and DUI Driver Collide
In the process, the rider collided with the driver’s side of the Toyota in the intersection. He ended up ejected from his motorcycle onto the roadway as a result of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene. They found the victim suffering from open fractures in his right wrist, right leg and left arm upon impact.
Medical personnel took him to a hospital for treatment of his major injuries. His name and condition at this time were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, police determined that the driver of the Camry was under the influence when the wreck took place. They soon arrested the 26-year-old man on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Officials forced the area of Haines Street and Grand Avenue to shut down following the DUI collision. The Pacific Beach crash is still under investigation.
