Pedro Macias Jr., 60, Badly Injured in Vina Fatal Crash on Highway 99E
TEHAMA COUNTY, CA (September 9, 2021) – Pedro Macias Jr. was badly injured after a fatal head-on crash on Highway 99E in Vina.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 60-year-old Chico man as the victim of the collision which took place on Thursday.
The incident happened on September 8 when Pedro Macias Jr. was driving a 2016 Peterbilt south on Highway 99E in Vina. At the same time, a Dodge SUV was going north.
Car Crashes Into Truck Head-On
For an unknown reason, the Dodge veered into the southbound lane. CHP said the car then slammed head-on into the tanker truck, just south of South Avenue.
The impact knocked the axle off the truck and severely damaged the SUV. Pedro Macias Jr. sustained moderate injuries as a result of the Vina crash.
A helicopter soon took the patient to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico for treatment. Meanwhile paramedics pronounced the driver of the Dodge, a 28-year-old Red Bluff man, dead at the scene.
The Red Bluff Daily News and Action News Now wrote that the accident occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. The cause of the Highway 99E crash is still under investigation.
