2 Killed, 5 Injured in Pittsburg Crash on West Leland Road
PITTSBURG, CA (April 12, 2021) – A DUI crash killed two people and injured several others along West Leland Road in Pittsburg.
According to the East Bay Times and KRON 4 News, the tragic accident occurred on Monday evening. Officers reported the wreck at about 6:03 p.m.
The incident began when a Chevrolet Camaro was traveling at a high rate of speed east on West Leland Road in Pittsburg. At the same time, a Toyota Corolla was going the same direction.
Police said the Chevrolet then slammed into the rear of the Toyota. The Corolla spun out of control and struck a tree, east of John Henry Johnson Parkway.
3 Children Victims in DUI Collision Near John Henry Johnson
Three of the four passengers, described as juveniles, ended up ejected from the Toyota. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and pronounced the driver of the Corolla dead at the scene.
The other four occupants suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed them to a hospital, where one child later died.
Officials also took the two passengers of the Camaro for treatment of major injuries. The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, police determined that the speeding male motorist was under the influence when the crash happened. Authorities soon arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
Officers forced West Leland to shut down in both directions from the parkway to Range Road following the wreck. The tragic collision is still under investigation.
