Police Officer Tyler Lenehan Killed in Sacramento DUI Crash on Highway 99
SACRAMENTO, CA (January 21, 2022) – Elk Grove Police Officer Tyler Lenehan was killed after a DUI wrong-way crash on Highway 99 in Sacramento.
The California Highway Patrol identified the six-year veteran as the victim in the fatal wreck which took place on Friday.
The incident happened when Officer Tyler Lenehan was riding a motorcycle south on Highway 99 in Sacramento. At the same time, a 2016 Dodge Challenger was traveling north in the southbound lanes near 47th Avenue.
CHP said the Dodge then slammed head-on into the police unit on the highway near 12th Avenue. Officer Tyler Lenehan ended up ejected from his motorcycle as a result of the crash.
Drunk Wrong-Way Driver Hits Police Officer
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the rider down on the ground. He sustained severe injuries following the collision.
Meanwhile, CHP located and stopped the wrong-way driver from walking away from the scene. They determined that the man was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the officer.
Officers soon arrested him on felony charges of murder and DUI. They also charged him with wrong-way driving, and causing an accident resulting in injury.
The Sacramento crash is still under investigation.
