2 Injured in Poway Crash on State Route 67 Near Ellie
POWAY, CA (March 5, 2023) – A DUI crash left two people injured on State Route 67 near Ellie Lane in Poway.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune and ABC 10 News, the accident took place late Saturday night. Officers reported the wreck on March 4 at about 11:12 p.m.
The incident began when a 2008 Mercedes-Benz sedan crossed into the northbound lanes of State Route 67, just north of Ellie Lane, in Poway.
The Mercedes then went the wrong way up an embankment along the northbound lanes, then rolled back onto the roadway. In the process, the sedan struck a 2017 Volkswagen GTI.
Alcohol Factor in Wreck
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 27-year-old man, survived the incident with minor injuries. Paramedics rushed him to the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for further aid.
The 26-year-old woman driving the Mercedes sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel transported her to the Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time were not released. Meanwhile, deputies believed that alcohol played a role in the wreck.
Officers forced State Route 67 to shut down in both directions for several hours near Ellie following the collision. The cause of the Poway crash is still under investigation.
