Bicycle Rider Seriously Injured in Rancho Penasquitos Crash on Carmel Mountain
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 11, 2022) – A crash left a bicycle rider seriously injured on Carmel Mountain Road in the Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood.
According to an article published by the ABC 10 News, the accident took place on Friday afternoon. Officers reported the collision at about 5:30 p.m.
The incident happened on December 9 when a 63-year-old man was riding a mountain bicycle in the Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood. He was traveling north along the edge of Carmel Mountain Road.
San Diego police said for an unknown reason, a Honda Fit swerved to the right and struck the bicyclist. The car hit him in the 10000 block of the road.
Driver Hits Man, Flees Scene
The man fell off the bike as a result of the collision. He ended up suffering from cuts on his face and fractured his leg upon impact.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and rushed the cyclist to a hospital for treatment. The report did not disclose the name of the wounded party and his condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the Honda did not stop to render aid and fled the area. Officers forced a stretch of Carmel Mountain Road to shut down following the incident.
The cause of the Rancho Penasquitos bicycle crash is still under investigation.
