Hit-and-Run Driver Raul Garcia, 50, Kills Pedestrian in Del Mar Crash
DEL MAR, CA (April 9, 2021) – Authorities detained Raul Garcia after a hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly pedestrian in Del Mar.
Police identified the 50-year-old man as the suspect in the fatal collision which occurred on Friday afternoon.
The incident happened when Raul Garcia was driving a 2004 Saturn Vue on Del Mar Heights Road. At the same time, a male pedestrian was crossing midblock.
Police said for an unknown reason, Raul Garcia then struck the man in his 70s near Durango Drive. The San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10 News reported the accident at about 2:15 p.m.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene, a half-mile west of the Interstate 5. They found the victim left lying on the ground as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed him to a hospital, where he died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Raul Garcia did not stop to render aid to the man and fled the area. Witnesses followed him several blocks away and convinced him to return to the crash site.
Authorities soon arrested Garcia on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and other charges. They closed eastbound Del Mar Heights Road at Mar Scenic Drive for a time following the accident.
The tragic hit-and-run incident is still under investigation.
