Raul Gonzalez, 48, Suspect in Santa Barbara DUI Crash at Cota and Salsipuedes
SANTA BARBARA, CA (November 27, 2021) – Authorities detained Raul Gonzalez after a fatal DUI crash in Santa Barbara.
Police determined that the 48-year-old Santa Barbara man was under the influence when the wreck took place on Saturday afternoon.
The incident began when Raul A. Gonzalez was driving a Jeep SUV south on North Salsipuedes Street near East Cota Street, in Santa Barbara. At the same time, a motorcyclist was traveling ahead of him.
Police said Raul Gonzalez then struck the back of the motorcycle. The bike careened half a block and plowed into a parked Toyota sedan in the 500 block of Salsipuedes.
The Jeep crashed into a parked Dodge Ram truck nearby. The Noozhawk News wrote that the accident occurred shortly before 2 p.m.
Motorcyclist Hit and Killed by Car
The rider ended up ejected from the motorcycle about 85 feet before landing on the ground. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found him lying unresponsive on the road.
The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. He died at the scene. The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police arrested Raul Gonzalez on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury or death, both felonies.
They booked the suspect into the Santa Barbara County Jail in lieu of a $1 million bail. The Santa Barbara DUI crash is still under investigation.
