 Recology Garbage Truck Hits Man on Unicycle in Fatal Crash Oak Street, Octavia Blvd.Fatal Crash in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley Neighborhood

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (June 2, 2022) – A Recology garbage truck struck and killed a man riding on a motorized unicycle early Wednesday in the area of Oak Street and Octavia Boulevard.

The collision occurred just before 4 a.m. on June 1st in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood. The garbage truck, operated by a company under contract with the city, was traveling north on Octavia Boulevard. The rear of the truck reportedly hit the unicyclist due to unknown circumstances.

Police officers responded to the crash scene and located the cyclist in the roadway. The unidentified man died at the scene, police said.

“Safety is Recology’s paramount priority, and we are deeply saddened by the loss of life in this tragic accident,” a Recology spokesperson said. “Our most sincere sympathies go out to the loved ones of the victim.”
