Richard Ortiz, 38, Killed in San Jose DUI Crash on South White Road
SAN JOSE, CA (February 15, 2022) – Richard Ortiz was killed after a DUI crash on South White Road in San Jose.
Police identified the 38-year-old San Jose man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Saturday night.
The incident happened when Richard Ortiz was riding as a passenger in a 2000 Toyota sedan going north on South White Road in San Jose.
Police said for an unknown reason, the car went off the roadway. The Toyota then slammed into a tree on the east side of road near Castleton Drive.
DUI Driver Injured in Wreck
Richard Ortiz sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and rushed him to a hospital, where he died.
Medical personnel took the woman driving the Toyota for treatment of unspecified injuries. Police determined that she was under the influence when she crashed their car.
Officers soon arrested and booked the driver into the Santa Clara County jail for vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI charges.
The Mercury News and CBS San Francisco wrote that the accident occurred on February 12 at about 11:45 p.m. The San Jose DUI crash is still under investigation.
