DUI Driver Richard Zapata, 34, Severely Injures Bicyclist in Yuba County Crash
YUBA COUNTY, CA (June 2, 2021) – Authorities detained Richard Zapata after a DUI crash on Scott Forbes Road in Yuba County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 34-year-old Browns Valley man was under the influence when the wreck occurred on Sunday.
The incident began when Richard Zapata was driving a Subaru Forester east on Scott Forbes Road in Yuba County foothills. At the same time, Rebecca Schmidt was riding a bicycle in the same direction.

The car involved then hit the 56-year-old Browns Valley woman. She ended up with a severe lower leg injury as a result of the collision.
CHP said Richard Zapata drove the victim to her house where they called for the paramedics. The Appeal Democrat and KUBA Radio News wrote that the accident took place on May 30 at around noon.
Rebecca Schmidt was flown to the Sutter Roseville Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Richard Zapata sustained a small laceration to his lip following the Scott Forbes Road collision.
CHP soon arrested him for DUI. The Yuba County DUI crash is still under investigation.
