CalTrans Contractor Hit and Injured by Vehicle on Interstate 580 Wednesday
Richmond, CA (April 14, 2021) – A CalTrans contractor suffered injuries following an alleged hit-and-run crash on Interstate 580 early Wednesday, the East Bay Times reported.
Officials said a vehicle traveling west on I-580 struck a male party, later identified as a CalTrans contractor. Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was preparing to shut down lanes of the freeway for a construction crew detail.
In the area near Bayview Avenue onramp, a dark-colored sedan hit the worker. Authorities mentioned the motorist fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Meanwhile, responding medical personnel found the contractor at the crash site with major injuries. Due to the condition of the victim, authorities called a medical helicopter to airlifted the patient to a trauma center. The name of the patient and their condition at this time remained undisclosed.
Investigators handling the case continue to identity and locate the hit-and-run suspect in the Richmond pedestrian accident.
