Rigoberto Salas-Torres, 49, Seriously Injured in Stanislaus County Crash on Geer Road
STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA (May 16, 2021) – A DUI crash on Geer Road seriously injured Rigoberto Salas-Torres in Stanislaus County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 49-year-old Turlock man as the victim of the accident which took place late Saturday night.
The incident happened when Rigoberto Salas-Torres was driving a GMC SUV north on Geer Road in Stanislaus County. At the same time, a Honda sedan was going south.
Witnesses told CHP that the sedan was drifting back and forth across the lanes. The Honda then swerved into the opposite lane and struck the GMC head-on, just south of Santa Fe Avenue.
DUI Driver Hits Another Car Head-On
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene between Hughson and Turlock. They found Rigoberto Salas-Torres suffering from major injuries as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel soon rushed him to the Doctors Medical Center for treatment of broken femur and lacerations to his face. The Modesto Bee wrote that the wreck occurred on May 15 at about 11:50 p.m.
The male driver of the Honda sustained abdominal lacerations, a fractured pelvis and a broken ankle. Officials also took him to the same hospital for further aid.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he hit the SUV. He is facing felony DUI charges.
Officers forced Geer Road to shut down for a time after the wreck. The Stanislaus County DUI crash is still under investigation.
