Rodney Wafford, 56, Killed in Fresno County Crash Near Piedra and Weldon
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (November 22, 2021) – Rodney Wafford was killed after a crash near Piedra Road and Weldon Avenue in Fresno County.
The coroner’s office identified the 56-year-old Sanger man as the victim of the fatal wreck which took place on Saturday afternoon.
The incident began when Rodney Wafford tried to help his neighbor whose truck became stuck in a ditch on a dark Fresno County road. He got into his tractor and then started working.
The 41-year-old Reedley woman driving a van failed to see the tractor and slammed into it. The California Highway Patrol said two crashed in the area of Piedra Road and Weldon Avenue.
Woman, Children Injured in Wreck
Rodney Wafford ended up ejected from the tractor as a result of the crash. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The woman and her five children, ages 8 to 16, sustained minor injuries following the wreck. Medical personnel took them to a local hospital for treatment.
The Fresno Bee and Your Central Valley wrote that the accident occurred on November 20 at about 5:18 p.m. CHP forced the corner of Piedra and Weldon to shut down for hours after the collision.
The fatal Fresno County crash is still under investigation.
