Man, 38, Seriously Injured in Sacramento County Crash on Interstate 5 Near Hood Franklin
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (November 1, 2022) – A crash killed one person and seriously injured another on the Interstate 5 near Hood Franklin Road in Sacramento County.
According to The Sacramento Bee and ABC 10 News, the tragic accident took place early Tuesday. Officers reported the wreck shortly before 1 a.m. near Elk Grove.
The incident happened when a 2014 Nissan was going north on the Interstate 5 near Hood Franklin Road in Sacramento County. A the same time, a GMC truck was traveling south.
For an unknown reason, the Nissan swerved to the left and crossed over the center median and into oncoming traffic. The California Highway Patrol said the car then slammed into the GMC.
Sixto Cervantes, 21, Killed in Wreck
The Nissan spun out of control, in the process. Its driver, 21-year-old Sixto Cervantes, ended up ejected through the rear window into a nearby field due to the impact of the collision.
CHP confirmed that the Bakersfield man died as a result of the accident. The 38-year-old Lodi man driving the truck survived the incident with major injuries.
Paramedics rushed him to a hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, officers forced the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 to shut down near Hood Franklin following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Sacramento County crash is still under investigation.
