Pedestrian Severely Injured in East Village Crash at 16th Street and National Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 19, 2021) – A pedestrian was severely injured after a crash at 16th Street and National Avenue in East Village.
The San Diego Union-Tribune wrote that the accident took place on Tuesday evening. Officers reported the collision at around 7:30 p.m. between the East Village and Barrio Logan neighborhoods.
The incident happened when a male pedestrian was walking in a left turn lane on National Avenue in East Village. At the same time, a Ford Fiesta was going north on 16th Street.
San Diego police said the driver crossed a double-yellow line for an unknown reason. He turned left onto National Avenue and struck the 53-year-old man.
Man Hit by Car
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the victim down on the ground. He sustained brain bleed, skull fractures and a fracture of the upper bone in one of his arms.
Medical personnel rushed the pedestrian to a hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries. The report did not disclose his name and condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police determined that the 23-year-old man driving the Ford did not turn on the headlights of his car when he traveled the area.
Officers forced the intersection of 16th Street and National Avenue to shut down following the collision. The East Village pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
