San Francisco hit-and-run Polk Hayes
1 Killed, 1 Critically Injured in San Francisco Hit-and-Run at Polk and Hayes Streets
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 18, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian and critically injured another at Polk and Hayes streets in San Francisco.
According to the CBS San Francisco and KTVU News, the tragic accident occurred on Tuesday evening. Officers reported the collision at around 7 p.m.
The incident began when a dark blue Chevrolet pickup was traveling more than 50 mph south on Polk Street, approaching Hayes Street in San Francisco.
Police said the truck ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a white Audi sedan going west on Hayes. The Chevrolet ultimately struck two pedestrians in the area.
Pedestrians Hit by Car Near Civic Center
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded at the crash site near the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in the Civic Center area. They pronounced one pedestrian dead at the scene.
The other victim, a 28-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed him to the Zuckerberg-San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the pickup truck abandoned their car and fled on foot.
Officials forced the intersection of Polk and Hayes streets to close for a time following the accident. The San Francisco hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
