Bicyclist, 71, Seriously Injured in San Marcos Hit-and-Run on Woodland Parkway
SAN MARCOS, CA (April 2, 2021) – An elderly bicyclist was seriously injured after a hit-and-run crash along Woodland Parkway in San Marcos.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident occurred on Thursday night. Officers reported the collision shortly before 8 p.m.
The incident happened on April 1 when a 71-year-old man was riding a bicycle in the northbound bike lane on Woodland Parkway. He was approaching El Norte Parkway at the time.
The sheriff’s department said a vehicle then struck the cyclist from behind. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene, north of Fulton Road.
Elderly Man Hit by Car in Bicycle Lane
They found the elderly rider left lying on Woodland Parkway as a result of the crash. Medical personnel rushed him to Palomar Hospital in Escondido for treatment of serious injuries.
Officials did not disclose the name of the bicyclist and his condition at this time. Meanwhile, deputies affirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid and soon fled the area.
Authorities described the car involved as a silver 2013 to 2016 silver Audi A4. They are still searching for the suspected hit-and-run motorist.
