Cyclist Falls, Fatally Hit by Vehicle on Laurelwood Road
Santa Clara, CA (May 6, 2022) – One person died following a traffic accident that occurred on Laurelwood Road Thursday, the Mercury News reported.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 72-year-old man was riding a bicycle traveling in the streets of Santa Clara Thursday morning. According to the article published online, the cyclist was heading east on Laurelwood Road against oncoming traffic. When the man approached the 1500 block of Laurelwood Road, the cyclist fell off his bicycle.
Authorities said the man landed in front of a 2006 Toyota Prius entering the roadway from a parking lot. The Prius driver was unable to stop and run over the cyclist.
Shortly after 9:25 a.m., emergency crews arrived at the location. They found the victim with significant injuries. Despite life-saving measures performed by paramedics, the cyclist sadly passed away. Officials only identified the deceased as a 72-year-old San Jose man.
Detectives continue to work at this time to determine several unclear factors surrounding the fatal accident on Laurelwood Road in Santa Clara.
