Sarah Villar Killed; Tayler Schmitt Injured in Hollister Pedestrian DUI Crash
HOLLISTER, CA (June 21, 2021) – A DUI crash killed Sarah Villar and injured Tayler Schmitt on Sunnyslope Road in Hollister.
Police identified the 32-year-old woman and the 33-year-old man as the victims of the fatal collision which occurred on Sunday evening.
The incident began when Sarah Villar and Tayler Schmitt were walking their dog on the sidewalk along Sunnyslope Road in Hollister.
Couple Hit by DUI Driver on Sunnyslope Road
Police said a vehicle approached and went off the north side of the road. Its male driver careened across the road and struck the Hollister pedestrians.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced one pedestrian, Sarah Villar, dead at the scene. Medical personnel rushed Tayler Schmitt to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The Benito Link and KSBW News wrote that the dog survived the accident on June 20 shortly after 6 p.m. Meanwhile, police determined that the motorist was under the influence when he hit the couple.
Authorities soon arrested him for manslaughter and DUI charges. The Hollister pedestrian DUI crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 636-4330.
