Steven Tadeo, 30, Killed in Sutter County Crash on Highway 99
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (March 20, 2023) – Steven Tadeo was killed after a crash on Highway 99 and Oswald Road in Sutter County.
The sheriff’s office identified the 30-year-old Westwood man as the victim in the fatal wreck which took place on Sunday near Yuba City.
The incident happened when Steven Tadeo was driving a 2023 Toyota Tacoma north in the No. 1 Lane of Highway 99 in Sutter County. He was traveling at about 65 mph toward the Oswald Road intersection.
At the same time, a 2023 Freightliner with a 53-foot box trailer was stopped at the limit line of Oswald. For an unknown reason, the semi-truck accelerated to make a left turn across the highway.
Semi-Truck and Car Collide
The big rig went directly into the path of the Toyota. The California Highway Patrol said the car then hit the landing gear on the left side of the truck.
The Tacoma ended up wedged underneath the trailer due to the impact of the collision. The Appeal Democrat and Action News Now wrote that the accident occurred on March 19 at about 12:05 p.m.
Steven Tadeo died as a result of the crash. The driver of the Freightliner, 36-year-old Stockton resident Sandeep Kumar, stopped and stayed at the site following the wreck.
Meanwhile, CHP forced Highway 99 to shut down between Barry Road and Oswald Road for about two hours after the incident. The cause of the Sutter County crash is still under investigation.
