Tommy Chu, 44, Killed in Corona DUI Crash on Interstate 15 Freeway
CORONA, CA (February 15, 2022) – Tommy Chu was killed after a DUI crash on the Interstate 15 Freeway in Corona.
The coroner’s office identified the 44-year-old Corona man as the victim of the fatal collision which occurred on Saturday.
The incident happened when Tommy Chu was driving a Honda CRV north on the Interstate 15 Freeway in Corona. At the same time, a Mercedes-Benz E-350 was traveling behind him.
The California Highway Patrol said the Mercedes then veered across the freeway to get to the Weirick Road exit. In the process, the car struck the rear of the Honda.
Jorge Augustin, 29, Arrested
Both vehicles went off of the road, plunged down an embankment and across the Weirick off-ramp lanes. The Patch and My News LA wrote that the accident took place on February 12 at around 3:05 a.m.
Tommy Chu died at the scene of the crash. Meanwhile, CHP determined that the driver of the Mercedes was under the influence when he hit the victim.
Officers soon arrested Jorge Anival Gomez Augustin on suspicion of murder and DUI resulting in death. They booked the 29-year-old man into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside without bail.
