Ventura County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez, 73, Killed in Oxnard Pedestrian Crash
OXNARD, CA (August 12, 2022) – Ventura County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez was killed after a pedestrian crash in Oxnard.
Officers identified the 73-year-old Oxnard woman as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Friday evening.
The incident happened when a 2020 GMC Sierra struck Chair of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors Carmen Ramirez in Oxnard.
Police said the truck was going west on Seventh Street toward A Street. At the same time, the former Oxnard City Council Mayor Pro Tem was crossing the intersection.
Woman Hit by Car in Crosswalk
For an unknown reason, the car hit her within the crosswalk. The Ventura County Star and NBC Los Angeles wrote that the accident occurred at about 6:45 p.m.
Carmen Ramirez sustained serious injuries as a result of the pedestrian incident. Paramedics rushed her to the Ventura County Medical Center, where she soon died.
Meanwhile, police added that the 38-year-old man driving the GMC stopped and stayed at the scene. Officers forced the area of Seventh and A streets to shut down for a time following the collision.
